American Legion Awards -

2024 High School Oratorical Contest - Grades 9-12, Scholarships (or Savings Bonds) ranging from $7500 to $1500. 8-10 minute memorized oration & 3-5 minute extemporary oration. Application deadline to local post 12/3/2023.

2024 Annual Essay Contest -

Grades 9-12, Scholarships ranging from $3500 to $2500. Essay (500-1000 words) on ““WHY IS THE 1ST AMENDMENT IMPORTANT IN AMERICA?” Deadline - 1/9/2024.

2024 Essay Contest for Middle School -

Grades 6-8, Essay (500-1000 words) on “DO YOU BELIEVE THAT U.S. FLAG ETIQUETTE SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOL?” Deadline - 2/5/2024

  • College-bound students should apply to colleges as soon as possible for greatest opportunity.

College Scorecard US Department of Education's site for finding the right fit.

College Navigator shows side by side comparisons between schools; includes general financial aid award information.

The College Board site is excellent for comparing colleges, narrowing down choice, and finding colleges that offer certain majors.

Affordable Colleges - an organization dedicated to providing free higher education tools for current and future college students and their families.

Colleges that do NOT requires SAT/ACT scores.

  • FAFSA - NEW

    • Apply for Federal financial aid after December, 2023, using 2022 income information. The FAFSA form provides the US government, PA state government, and colleges with information to determine student aid. If you haven't completed your taxes, you can apply with estimated numbers from the previous year. Detailed instructions for every FAFSA question.

    CAUTION - the website must be FAFSA.ed.gov. Applying is free. There are other copycat sites that will charge you a fee.

    The student and one parent will each need a FSAID to complete the FAFSA online.

 
  • Financial Aid Information

Federal Student Aid - Comprehesive site for student aid for college.

Finaid (www.finaid.org) - Source of free, financial aid information, advice and tools.

PHEAA - Pennsylvania's Higher Education Assistance Agency for a PA State Grant (May 1, 2024 deadline), Special Programs, tools, etc. You complete the Pennsylvania State Grant Form online directly from your FAFSA confirmation page.

SAT Test Schedule -

$60.00 and late registration - additional $30.

Dec 2nd Test: regular registration deadline - November 2, 2023. Offered at E. Stroudsburg S, Pocono Mountain East, and Pleasant Valley.

IMPORTANT - SAT is transitioning to digital testing in March

Mar 9th, 2024 Test: regular registration deadline - February 23, 2024.

May 4th, 2024 Test: regular registration deadline - April 19, 2024.

June 1st, 2024 Test: regular registration deadline - May 17, 2024.

Register online at College Board. The sooner you register, the better the chance you have of getting the location of your choice. Students will need to create Log-in IDs and passwords.

******Remember to "choose" the 4 colleges that you want scores sent to for free when you register, OR up to 9 days after testing. (If you wait until after the test, the score reports will cost $12 each)

Class Ring Information - Packets were given to juniors in November. Check Josten's for an interactive design program. If you provide your email, you are likely to receive a discount code.

PSAT Results - Juniors were able to access their PSAT results on November 6th at their College Board logins.

SOPHOMORES -

Sophomores were given their ASVAB scores in the last week of November, and completed the Exploring Careers activity provided by the ASVAB. Results were sent home with the students.
